Abby: Station Eleven. This is the first book I have read in over 2 years that I really enjoyed. It is a sort of post apocalyptic fiction but it doesn’t use the tropes you would expect.

Abby: all people taking summer classes. god have mercy on your souls.

Reading

Mallory: I read two books this month, both all the way in one day. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon and The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. Both of these books find creative ways to explore familial relationships, as well as friendships and romantic relationships. I highly recommend both of them.

Abby: chem textbooks.

Downloading

Mallory: I binge watched the first season of Riverdale last weekend. It was way super good. Also – I fell in love with Cole Sprouse which is something that I didn’t realize could still be a thing.

Doing

Mallory: GETTING A CAR!!!!!!!! Someone please help me name it.

Abby: Trying to make the most of summer.

This is WEIRDD: April 2017

Wearing

Mallory: My white converse. For some reason, I’ve been very into the beat up look that these provide. I’ve had them for over a year (maybe almost two??), so they are super worn in and comfy.

Abby: Rain jackets. It’s pouring here.

Eating

Mallory: um I’ve had Wendy’s twice in the past month so Wendy’s??? I am a firm believer that Wendy’s chicken nuggets are the best chicken nuggets and I will fight you if you disagree.

Abby: bacon and mac and cheese.

Impressed By

Mallory: The two GAs that have been conducting the University of Arkansas Concert Band all semester, Derek and Dustin. They have really been able to bring out a whole new side of the Concert Band and we’re pretty good and I love them so…yeah.

Abby: Jacob Maestri. He is so Catholic.

Reading

Mallory: The book of April was Almost Adulting by Arden Rose, who is an internet personality. I was so into this book. I was a little worried that I wouldn’t enjoy it, but guys – Arden did good. This book was funny and refreshing. Arden tackles all those iffy topics like a real big sister should. I do recommend alright. Read it. PLEASE.

Abby: ……my textbooks?????

Downloading

Mallory: Meghan Rienks new podcast “Don’t Blame Me!” is golden. Meghan is a youtuber that I have been watching for years and I love her so much and it is so cool to see her doing new things. Plus she’s really funny.

Abby: i dont have time to download.

Doing

Mallory: Not sleeping enough???? There’s been so much school stress in my life and I honestly don’t even really remember this month so I’m gunna blame that on no sleep. Also I was sick for like two weeks.

Abby: trying to survive this semester

This is WEIRDD: March 2017

Wearing

Mallory: Coming off of the clothing challenge, all I wanted to live in were comfy clothes. Sweatshirts and leggings and t-shirts. I also realized I really need to clean out my drawers because I own too many clothes. Stay tuned to see if that realization actually leads to anything.

Abby: I have been wearing Kyle.

Eating

Mallory: I think my favorite thing I ate this month was the french fries from Butcher and Bee in Nashville. They were so so good you guys. Go there. Get the fries. Cry because of how good they are.

Abby: I ate Kyle.

Impressed By

Mallory: Tau Beta Sigma’s newest members!!!! They made it through process. They are now members. They can vote. They can sing the songs. They can wear the letters. It is golden. I am loving it. I’m especially proud of my little, Maureen. She’s a cutie. And a full member. I can’t wait to see what this class does with their time in TBS.

Abby: I am impressed by Kyle. He changed his major and is changing his life.

Reading

Mallory: The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins was this month’s book of the month and y’all – it was thrilling. The book is told by three different women, all of them pretty unreliable. The book was so confusing up until the very end when it all seemed to make sense. It took me half way through the book to realize that not only were the narrators changing, so were the times that the stories were set in. I so so so recommend this book. I can’t wait to watch the movie to compare the two.

Abby: I read Kyle.

Downloading

Mallory: 2 things: Ed Sheeran’s new album and One Tree Hill. All I listened to for weeks was Divide. I love every song on that album. I really enjoy it. Also, I started re-watching OTH which is my favorite tv show of all time. I love crappy drama. It is my favorite thing.

Abby: Downloaded some sweet Kyle.

Doing

Mallory: Road trip road trip road trip. Driving. Sleeping. Eating good food. Getting tired of spending time with my two best friends. Longing to be home. Loving my life. Loving those friends. Ya know, the usual.

Abby: …

This is WEIRDD: February 2017

Wearing

Mallory: check out all of the outfit posts if you really wanna know guys. There’s been one once a week – I’m not detailing it all here. Sorry bout it.

Abby: Well… once i stopped doing the challenge i started wearing more tshirts…

Eating

Mallory: Lots of pasta!! Plain pasta is back in Brough and it’s my favorite go-to. Because I’m a literal child, I struggle with consistently finding cafeteria food I enjoy – pasta solves this most of the time.

Abby: I made this some quinoa fried rice style and it has been giving me life. I love quinoa and I love Asian food so it is basically the perfect meal for me.

Impressed By

Mallory: Meghan Rienks. Meghan is a Youtuber who I have watched for a reallllyyyy long time. I admire the way that she speaks as openly as she can about the things that are important to her. She also recently donated all of the money she made from a certain brand deal to Planned Parenthood and that IS VERY AWESOME.

Abby: My MC sisters. Everyone is working really hard to get through process and that’s super cool.

Reading

Mallory: Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham was my book of the month this month. I really did enjoy this book. Learning about Lauren Graham’s life was super cool. The book was written in a kinda weird way, so it was sort of hard for me to get through – but I promise it was a good read! It was especially cool for me to read the chapter she wrote when she watched all of Gilmore Girls. It was also to read her take on dating, especially dating a co-star who plays her brother on Parenthood. Honestly about a 8/10 book – read it if you’re at all interested to know more about Lauren Graham’s life.

Abby: Articles about the Temporomandibular Joint

Downloading

Mallory: I have been very into the band LANY lately. Their stuff is super catchy and their lyrics are really nice. Also they are the only band I listened to while studying for my Comparative Politics test last week so they’re pretty good to study to. Very easy listening, ya know?

Abby: Wild Child released their Pandora sessions on Spotify and they are lovely.

Doing

Mallory: too much studying!!!!!1!!!!!!1!!! not enough sleeping!!!!!!!11!!!!!111!!!1

Abby: tryna make it through, ya know? February is my worst month this semester in terms of tests and papers due so surviving has been quite a feat.

This is WEIRDD: January 2017

Wearing

Mallory: This has been the month of crewneck sweatshirts for me. I got multiple for Christmas, and they are just so comfy and warm. I also feel like you can dress them up or down so they have been my go to fashion piece of the month.

Abby: Turtlenecks are back my friends and don’t let anyone tell you any differently. I have been wearing my new green and purple turtlenecks maybe a little too often but I DON’T CARE. They keep my neck warm and add definition to my chin.

Eating

Mallory: Back to school means back to Brough. Which they rearranged. I was VERY disoriented when I walked back in after the break. I had to search for the unhealthy meal instead of it being right in front of me. Ugh. Who’s idea was it to try and make me eat healthier???

Abby: Ok I have now done three weeks off meal prep so I am really proud. The first week was an Asian Inspired Spiral-ized Cucumber Salad and roasted veggies with quinoa. The second week I had a Roasted Winter Vegetable bowl and a Kale salad. This week I have Bok Choy Rice noodles and another kale salad because lots of love for kale.

Impressed By

Mallory: Lady Gaga’s newest album Joanne. I know that I wrote about this in a Friday Five a couple weeks ago, but it is SO GOOD you guys. It’s incredibly personal, and you can tell that she has put her heart and soul into writing and singing the songs. It is very different than anything she has put out before and I am 100% here for it.

Abby: KAT CAMPBELL. She has been really smart about maintaining healthy eating choices and going to her 7am class which is a horrible thing that shouldn’t exist.

Reading

Mallory: I mentioned this in my Christmas haul from friends, but Jacob got me Uncommon Grounds by Mark Pendergrast for Christmas and that’s the book I read this month. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though it was honestly a deviation from what I typically read. It took me awhile to read because the history of coffee is very dense and drama-filled. This isn’t something I would recommend for those looking for a light read, but if you have time to spend reading and want to learn a little something you should pick it up and give it a try.

Abby: I recently read an article for class called, “How to Build a Man” by Anne-Fausto Sterling. It brought up very interesting insights into masculinity and the expectations of Western males.

Downloading

Mallory: Foursome on AwesomenessTV’s YoutubeRED channel. I use my dad’s Youtube account for this, which takes work, which is how you know that this is something you should check out. I love JennxPenn’s actual Youtube channel and I am so glad that I finally got around to watching this show she stars in. The drama in the show is on purpose ridiculous to be funny and I really enjoy it. Lots of laughs occurred in the watching of this show.

Abby: The Good Place. What a TV show. What a season finale. So funny, so smart. Please just watch.

Doing

Mallory: School starting back up in the middle of January means that I have been trying to get back in the swing of things. I feel like I forgot how to balance school, work, TBS, and fun over the break – using my planner has helped me feel a little in control. I also started developing a good sleep pattern, which has really helped my sanity even though it means that no productive work gets done after 11 P.M. because that’s bedtime.

Abby: I’m back on the grind of studying, working, learning and generally scheduling my entire life. Additionally, I am a membership candidate for TBS which is super exciting but also a large time commitment. It will definetly be worth it though, so no worries there. Basically my calendar is my best friend right now and we hang out all the time.

This is WEIRDD: November

Wearing

Mallory: My black Nikes. They are very comfortable. Also, they give the illusion that I work out, when in fact that has never happened in my life. They are also pretty cute – I typically wear them with leggings or cuffed jeans & they honestly make me feel like I have my life together, which is a nice plus.

Abby: well my grandma just bought me a new outfit and I am forever grateful. It consists of tan flare corduroy pants, a tight striped long sleeve Henley with a corset style neck and a light pink cardigan. Basically I’m living out my early 2000s dream and it is wonderful. Thanks G-Ma.

Eating

Mallory: Pop-tarts. Which is not healthy. But they are GOOD. They are actually very versatile. You can eat one for breakfast or for a snack or for dessert. 10/10 would recommend eating a Pop-tart.

Abby: I have had a fried egg and bacon for breakfast close to everyday this month. I feel like thats fairly healthy, could be worse, could be better. Either way, I’m happier because of my breakfast.

Impressed By

Mallory: The Psi chapter of Tau Beta Sigma has been rockin’ it this semester. We’ve put on a very successful Founder’s Day Ceremony, cleaned a street, cleaned some seat covers, and participated in a National Program with our Adopt-A-Band service events. While doing all these amazing things, each member of our chapter finds time to build her sisters up and I am in awe of these amazing people.

Abby: My hair. It has been blue for over two months now and is still managing to look good if I do say so myself. GOOD JOB HAIR.

Reading

Mallory: I have been re-reading the Pushing the Limits series by Katie McGarry. I really enjoy the way that the books are told and how they are lightly linked to each other. READ THEM.

Abby: I read this book called Njal’s Saga for my world civ class. It was actually super drama filled. There was divorce, cheating, death, and impressive female badass-ness. So if you have to read an Icelandic saga anytime soon, I definitely recommend this one.

Downloading

Mallory: I’ve been very into watching Quantico on Netflix (and then catching up on abc.com). The drama and the way that the two stories are told at the same time is really intriguing. Plus I really want Alex and Ryan to end up together.

Abby: Westworld. If you haven’t watched it, you should. It is a western sci fi so what’s not to love. My description wouldn’t do it justice so just watch the pilot and I promise. You will be impressed.

Doing

Mallory: Lots ‘n lots of homework. I have paper on top of paper and reading on top of reading and test on top of test BUT WE ARE ALMOST DONE MY FRIENDS. I’m actually procrastinating working on a project by writing this post, but I needed a brain break OKAY. Also I have been making a lot of twitter polls (follow me on twitter to vote in these polls: @wooaahhmallory).

Abby: I have recently learned to knit! I am probably the world’s slowest knitter but it is ok because it is relaxing.

This is WEIRDD: October

Wearing

Mallory: A sweatshirt that says “peanut butter” on it from rad.co. I get so many compliments and it is so comfy. 10/10 would recommend.

Abby: Shorts?????!!?!??? Why is it 80 degrees. October was so warm. I am upset. I have sweaters that need to be worn.

Eating

Mallory: My favorite thing to get when I go into Brough these days is a plate of fries with cheese sauce, bacon bits, and ranch on top. This is so so so unhealthy but I am a sucker for fake cheese sauce and ranch sooooo….what can I say??

Abby: The Honkey from Hammontrees. I went to Hammontrees twice this month which was awesome because it is so good. The Honkey is on sourdough bread with bacon, mayo, artichokes and lots of melty cheese. Mmmmmm goodness

Impressed By

Mallory: Honestly, myself. Over this past month, I have been facing some fears. I went to a concert ALONE to see Alex and Sierra when they performed on campus for free because I couldn’t find anyone to go with me, and I also walked into class late. Last semester, I would have never gone into class late with a steaming cup of Starbucks. I would have just turned around, BUT NOT NOW!

Abby: Lipstick. This is a newish thing for me but I have decided lipstick is my favorite type of makeup. It is totally commands a look and there are so many color options. Lip stick is fun. Lipstick, you rock.

Reading

Mallory: I haven’t exactly read anything for fun lately, which really makes me sad. I have been reading a whole lot of Romantic poetry for class, which has been fun until your realize you have a test over 50+ poems this week!!!!

Abby:

Downloading

Mallory: I JUST DISCOVERED CHANCE THE RAPPER. His mixtape “Coloring Book” is actually so fantastic. He is such a clever guy, and it’s just really nice.

Abby: Ok so I think this only a feature if you have Spotify Premium but I do and its super cool. Spotify takes the different kinds of music you listen to and makes you new playlists with it every day. They are called Daily Mixes and it is just great. I have like a chill, folky one, a musical/disney one, a rap one and an oldies but goodies one. I love it because it satisfies whatever kind of music mood I am in each day. Thanks Spotify, you get me.

Doing

Mallory: I have spent a whole bunch of time sitting in Abby’s place of business, Savoy, drinking tea and doing homework. This shop has such a great atmosphere for getting stuff done, but I do end up buying a whole lot of drinks I don’t actually need – but they are soooo good.

Abby: writing cymbal visuals, studying for tests and drinking lots of tea.

This is WEIRDD: September

Wearing

Mallory: My new pair of American Eagle “Tomgirl” jeans. These are basically AE’s take on a mixture of boyfriend jeans and mom jeans. The pair I’ve been really into has a button fly (aka 3 or 4 buttons where the zipper should be), are a little high waisted, and are a very dark wash. I really like styling them with a tiny cuff at the bottom, and either a basic t shirt tucked in or a tighter fitting crop top. I think that boyfriend jeans are actually cute as heck, so I’m really loving the one pair I have acquired.

Abby: PANTS AND SLEEVES. It is slowly but surely getting chilly here in Arkansas and I love it. Be sure to check back in a month from now when I’m hating my life because I’m freezing to death.

Eating

Mallory: Lots and lots of Chick-fil-a from the University of Arkansas Student Union. Waffle fries are actually one of my favorite foods. I also have been eating a lot of food at Abby and Kat’s house, so a lot of pasta bake leftovers. They are both pretty good at cooking, so it’s a win-win when I happen to come over and they have already made dinner.

Abby: I have being eating pasta bakes as Mallory said above. They are really nice because they are so filling and relatively cheap to make.

Impressed By

Mallory: Lin-Manuel Miranda. I finally got around to listening to Hamilton all the way through, and y’all, it’s killer. I also just started reading Hamilton the Revolution – and I have decided Lin is a brilliant man.

Abby: The RMB cymbal line. These cool cats have been really working their butts off and continuing to improve as the season has gone on.

LOL just realized I said the cymbal line last month but oh well. I still mean it.

Reading

Mallory: I have been reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan during my quiet time in the mornings while I drink my morning coffee. This book has really helped me understand the love that God has for us, while also made me feel really called to do more for Him. (I also read The Cursed Child and love love loved it.)

Abby: OMG I read the Cursed Child and reverted back to my 9 year old self. Harry Potter is the BE$T OMG.

Downloading

Mallory: Mr. Student Body President on the go90 app. One of my favorite youtubers, Arden Rose, is the second lead and honestly it is so good. Very youtube star studded, very nicely written. I would recommend checking it out.

Abby: I love Splendor and Misery. Its a rap concept album about a slave uprising in space. Basically that description is not doing it justice and you need to listen to it and you will understand. Fun fact: It makes great study music.

Doing

Mallory: Currently, I have been drinking soooo much coffee. Starbucks, Arsagas in the Law Library, Onyx, Mama Carmens, the morning cup I make in my Keurig. If it’s coffee, I’ll drink it. To be quite honest, I’m drinking way too much of it – BUT I CAN’T STOP.

Abby: Making life plans. Making to do lists. Scheduling out every minute of every day. Pretending I have my life together. You know, the usual.
